2019 GUSA cross country: UCC, UDS dominate again

The University of Cape Coast Cross Country Men’s team has once again won gold for their school in the Ghana Universities Sports Association Games (GUSA) Cross Country competition.
At the 2019 edition, which was held at the University of Energy and Natural Resources, Sunyani, the team proved their mettle as they defended their top spot in the score table.
The female team of the University for Development Studies also did same as outclassed eight other public universities to win the gold medal.
UCC, after winning the previous edition, which was hosted at the University of Professional Studies, Accra, secured 62 points, leaving the male team from UDS, and UEW with 76 points and 77 points respectively.
Radja Komla Lagble, who led team UG, placed fourth with 96 points.
Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology failed to come to the party after having extended points of 222 points with host The University of Energy and Natural Resources scoring 237 points.
Team UPSA, UHAS and UMaT had 356, 367 and 427 points respectively in the men’s division.
UCC feat in this year’s competition is the fourth consecutive time they have won gold at the GUSA Cross Country Competition.
The female category also featured six teams with the defending champions, UDC, outweighing their competitors with a resounding 34 points.
UCC followed with 78 points.
Team UG placed 3rd in the female category with 108 points.
UDS’ victory in the female category is also the third consecutive time they are winning gold in the competition.
Individual performance
In the men’s division William Amponsah from the University of Education was the first to finish the race followed by Malik Yakubu of the University of Development Studies.
University of Ghana’s Komla Lagble finished third.
